  • Welcome to my blog!

Hi, I'm Sarah a Kansas City based photographer. I specialize in newborn, child and family photography in Johnson County, Kansas and surrounding areas. My style is a mix of creative portraiture and lifestyle photography in the studio and outside on location. I live in Lenexa, Kansas with my husband, two boys and our old english sheepdog.

I enjoy styling photoshoots as fun events rather than just showing up with my camera and taking some "ok" pictures. I love it when families get excited about having personal photo art and want to display it in their homes as large boutique prints rather than decorating their walls with store bought "art". Please visit my pinterest page of photo display ideas for your home.

Please feel free to let your imagination run with fun photoshoot ideas. I want you to have art that is truly personalized that you will treasure for years to come. I work closely with my clients to give them a truly unique photo experience. Please review my Frequently Asked Questions & Price List if you are interested in becoming a client. If you are interested in a session please fill out my questionnaire here Thanks for visiting and feel free to call 913-832-8454 for more information.

Imagination Project Contest

CONTEST TIME!!!!! I have been wanting to do a really fun themed photoshoot for a while now and can’t decide what to do. So I figured I would let you choose and make some sort of contest out of it. If you don’t know my Imagination Project is something I have been working on trying to capture the imagination and innocence of children. For this contest I want you to tell me if you could have any “themed” photoshoot of your child/children what would it be? I’m looking to capture children in imaginative play or exploration. This contest is open to all that are available to be in the Kansas City area for a photoshoot or who wish to fly me and my family to a cool location for the photoshoot ie: Hawaii:)

I will collaborate with the winner a date and time for the photoshoot. The winner will be responsible to “create the photoshoot” so get as adventurous as you want, just remember you will have to create this photoshoot set. The photoshoot will either be outdoors, winners home, or my studio depending upon the set chosen.

What the winner gets…… me to take photos of the winner’s child/children in the themed photoshoot setup and approximately 15 digital images of the photoshoot.

who decides the winner……everyone that “likes” my facebook page!

how to enter the contest……
1. hop on over to my facebook page
2. like my page if you haven’t already
3. under the “Imagination Project Contest” in the comments section please write what your themed Photoshoot idea is for your child.
4. get all your family and friends to “like” my page
5. get all your family and friends to “like” your photoshoot theme comment
6. the contest will be open for 2 weeks at the end the theme comment with the most “likes” will win

***please note the photoshoot is open to children from the ages 7 months to 10 years old. Theme ideas must be child appropriate. Any inappropriate comments will be deleted. All theme ideas must be safe for children to participate in. ***

Your set can be as simple as your child with their pet in the woods exploring to setting up a whole outdoor Alice in Wonderland Tea Party! Need ideas, just think what your child is into and incorporate that somehow. It does need to be imaginative though! Get creative!!!!!

Kansas City Photographer – Before & After

We just got back from visiting my brother in Carlsbad, California and got to visit the Flower Fields.  It was really beautiful despite our overcast weather.  Rowan is to that age now where he won’t hold still for a photo so I have to take what I can get.  I figured this would be a great opportunity to do a little before and after.

First a little backstory on the way I work.  Before each session I go into I have an idea in my head of what I want it to look like.  Most of the time I can achieve what I want with very little photoshop editing.  However, not every day is sunny, I can’t always shoot my own kids during the beautiful golden hour, and they hardly ever look at the camera any more.  I still have in my mind what I envisioned the Carlsbad flower fields to look like with Rowan standing in them.  The first photo is the reality of the situation….the only photo with Rowan looking at the camera. It was not from the angle I wanted, and my husband was in the photo.  I really liked the photo of Rowan though so I did a little of my super secret photoshop editing and viola!

This is an example of why someone would choose me to be their photographer

I’m not just taking your picture.

i’m not photoshopping an incorrectly exposed picture.

I take my clients ideas with my vision and create personalized art.

Kansas City Maternity Photographer – Bloom

My lovely neighbor and friend Natalie is expecting a baby girl! We are so excited to meet her and I can’t wait to take her newborn photos. Natalie has an awesome husband that got her newborn photos as a Christmas gift! I saw these tulips and thought they would be perfect for Natalie’s maternity photos and she was up for anything so we had some fun. I love tulips it’s just too bad that in Kansas City they are only in bloom for like 2-3 weeks. Note to self: be due in April for awesome tulip maternity pics:) Enjoy!

Mille-Feuille Boutique – My Etsy shop

So you know that I don’t sit still right?!?! So with all of the fun stuff that I have been creating lately I figured I might as well give Etsy a try.

I am obsessed with anything frilly, sparkly, pretty, silky, girly, etc. I thought it would be fun to do a Marie Antoinette styled photoshoot for one of the outfits.

My shop name Mille-Feuille is French and means a thousand layers. I thought it fit nicely since my sewing is mostly ruffles and layers of chiffon, lace and feathers!

here are some photos from the shoot click here to visit Mille-Feuille Boutique
